An event for the second season of the TV anime " The Apothecary Diaries ," based on a light novel by Natsu Hyuga that originated from the novel submission website " Shosetsuka ni Naro a Novelist," was held on March 23rd at AnimeJapan 2025, one of the world's largest anime events, held at Tokyo Big Sight (Koto-ku, Tokyo). Voice actors including Katsuyuki Konishi , who plays Gao Shun, and Tachibana Ryumaru, who plays Gao Shun's son Ma Sen, appeared. Konishi was happy to perform on stage with Tachibana, who plays father and son.
At the beginning of the stage, Aoi Yuki , who plays Maomao , and Takeo Otsuka , who plays Jinshi , performed a live dubbing of the scene in episode 35 "Hunting," which was broadcast on March 21 and became a hot topic, in which Maomao and Jinshi suddenly become close. Episode 35 also depicted the interaction between Gao Shun and Ma Sen, and Konishi said, "We finally got to see the interaction between father and son. I'm glad that they were portrayed as father and son." When Tachibana revealed about the recording, saying, "I always watch Konishi's acting, so I acted while wondering how it would turn out," Konishi responded, "It means that my acting is being read...," to which Tachibana "screamed," "Dad, you're a bad person!"
When asked about the relationship between Maomao and Jinshi from Gao Shun's point of view, Konishi commented, "It's so frustrating." He also talked about the highlights of the episode, saying, "In the episode after episode 35, Gao Shun will talk a little bit about what he's thinking. I think we'll get a glimpse of his feelings."
The event featured cast members from episode 35, "The Hunt," including Akabane Kenji, who plays Li Bai.
The light novel version of "The Apothecary Diaries" is published by Hero Bunko (Imagine Infos), and the comic adaptation is also gaining popularity. The total number of copies of the original series has exceeded 38 million. The story is set in the glamorous harem of a certain continent, where a young poison taster named Maomao and a handsome eunuch named Jinshi become embroiled in an incident that takes place in the harem, which is full of conspiracies and rumors.
The first season of the TV anime aired on Nippon Television from October 2023 to March 2024. The second season is currently airing on Nippon Television's anime slot "FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT (Fura-ani)."
