The 114th episode of the NHK Asadora drama "Omusubi " starring Kanna Hashimoto (General TV, Monday to Saturday 8:00 am and others) was broadcast on March 13th. In the episode, there was a scene where Yui's (Hashimoto) husband Shoya ( Hayato Sano) called her by her full name "Yoneda Yui" in a handwritten message, which became a hot topic among viewers.
In episode 114, Yui learns from the nurse Kuwabara (Fu Hinami) that people with underlying illnesses or those who have had major surgery and have weakened immune systems are more susceptible to coronavirus infection. Taking into consideration Masato (Kitamura Yukiya), who previously underwent surgery for stomach cancer, Yui decides to live alone in her house in Osaka.
A few days later, Hana (Risa Miyazaki) comes home from elementary school feeling depressed. Worried, Shoya finds out what happened and visits Yui with fried rice made by Masato. As Yui tries to open the front door, Shoya tells her, "It's fine the way it is," and continues the conversation through the door.
Shoya tells Yui that a male classmate of Hana told her, "Your mom works at a hospital, so she's probably covered in coronavirus." Yui is shocked, but Shoya reveals that he told Hana, "Don't worry about that kind of guy. Mom is working hard at the hospital to help people in need. So be proud of Mom."
He then encouraged her by saying, "Yui, are you eating properly? Try my father-in-law's fried rice, it's delicious!" and hung the bag containing the fried rice on the door handle before leaving. In addition to the fried rice in the container, the bag also contained a handwritten message that read, "Don't worry about us! Do your best, Yoneda Yui! Shoya."
When Yui was in high school, she would bring in lunch boxes to support Shoya, who was working hard at baseball and aiming to go to Koshien, in terms of nutrition. On that occasion, there was a scene in which Shoya returned the empty lunch box to Yui with a note that read, "It was delicious! Thank you for the meal!" (Episode 31).
On social media, people posted comments such as, "It reminded me of the thank you message for lunch in high school," "The super long pass from the romantic comedy in the Itoshima arc made me cry," "The letter from Shoya that came with it made me cry at the reversal of events from when they were in high school and it was Yui-chan vs. Shoya," and "No one would have thought that Shoya's letter from back then would come in handy in the final stages..."
Many viewers also reacted to Shoya calling her by her name, which they had not heard since her marriage, with comments such as "It's dazzling to hear her call you by your full name after such a long time," "It warms my heart to hear her name," and "The destructive power of calling her by her full name after such a long time..."
