Singer Akira Terao appeared on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi) on February 4th for the first time in 21 years. He talked about his memories of his father, Jukichi Uno, who was a leading figure in the theater world.
Terao said of his father, "He was my only teacher and my god in my acting career. But he never really taught me anything concrete." Just before he passed away, he promised, "When I get better, I'll use you once in my play," but this never came to fruition. "Maybe he was half joking, but I'm sure he was worried about me," he recalled.
When "Ruby no Yubiwa" (Ruby Ring), released in 1981, became a big hit, it won first place for 12 consecutive weeks on the music program "The Best Ten" (TBS). When I told my father, "It's number one again this week," he replied with a disinterested "Hmm." When I told him, "People are praising me," he just said, "Hmm."
After he passed away, I learned that he would ask people around him, "Hey, what place is it this week?" "It's interesting. I guess that's what parents are like," he said of his father.
