The nominees for the 4th Magazine Academy Awards, a manga awards sponsored by BookLive, which runs the e-book store BookLive, were announced on January 23rd. The award, which is given to manga that is "worthy of praise" in many aspects including artwork, story, expression, and topicality, went to Morishita Miyu's "Tsumiki Ogami's Not-So-Ordinary Life," Tamura Ryuhei's "COSMOS," Agasawa Kocha's "The You and I Are Polar Opposites ," Matsuki Ikka's "Nippon Sangoku," and "Girl Meets Rock!," written by Kuwahari and illustrated by Deuchi Tetsuo.
The Magademy Awards, which began in 2021 with the concept of "praising manga characters," will undergo a major overhaul of their content for the fourth edition. There will be five categories: Best Work, Best Setting, Best Impression, Best Particularity, and Best Cover, and the aim is to "expand the ways to enjoy manga." The fourth edition will be open to works with a maximum of 10 volumes that were released or scheduled to be released in print or digital format between January 1st and December 31st, 2024. The winners of each category will be determined by public vote on a special website from among the nominees selected by the judges. Voting will run from January 23rd to February 13th. The winners will be announced on May 14th.
The Setting Award, which is given to manga with unique and innovative story settings and themes, was nominated for "Thunder 3" by Yuki Ikeda, "How to Raise a Human" by Pieta, "The Old Man Who Reincarnated as a Cat" by Yajima, "Tsugai no Yomi" by Hiromu Arakawa, and "Ruri Dragon" by Masaoki Mato.
The Impression Award, given to manga that touch and move the heart, was given to "To Walk Through Space With You" by Doronota Inuhiko, "Love and Dreams and Everything Ten-Ten-Ten" by Serada Nami, "This World is Worth Fighting for" by Kodama Hatsumi, "Suzuki-kun's Careful Life" by Fujimoto Yuki, and "Someday, We'll Become One Sound" by Kusahara Umi.
The Special Attention to Detail Award, which is given to manga that show the author's extraordinary dedication to drawing, painting, and the creation of the work, was awarded to " Kagurabachi " by Takeru Hokazono Ken, "Ayashiki Weather for Sahashi-kun" by Mitaka Niizo, "The Outdoor Unit Room: Chome Short Story Collection" by Chome, "Jardugal of the Tent" by Tomato Soup, and "The Dragon and the Chameleon" by Ishiyama Ryo.
The Cover Impact Award, given to manga that draw the reader in with the unique worldview that is exuded from their cover, went to Maruo Rokomi's "Mysterious ☆ My Little Brother Gyomei-kun," "Before You Go Extinct" written by Ushiroyato Takashi and illustrated by Abiko Rakuto, Omori S's "Shibatsuki Property," Usuba Kei's "Sing a Superstar," and Yoshiaki's "Rai Rai Rai."
