Highlights and stills from the first episode of the drama series "Drama W: Someone in This Town" (WOWOW, Sundays at 10pm), starring actor Eguchi Yosuke and featuring Makita Aju, which will begin on December 8th, have been released.
The original work is the novel of the same name (Kodansha), which was the first work by Hiromi Sano after winning the Edogawa Rampo Prize in 2020. Set in a newly developed residential area where a brutal kidnapping and murder case once occurred, this social mystery vividly and vividly depicts the fear caused by the "peer pressure" swirling among the residents. This is the first time that Sano's novel has been made into a TV series. The screenplay will be written by Yoichi Maekawa, who also wrote "W Serial Drama: The Magnificent Clan" and "W Serial Drama: The Unbroken Sun," and the director will be Yuichi Sato, known for "City Hunter" (Netflix) and "Strawberry Night" (Fuji TV).
Eguchi, in his first lead role in a drama series in about four years, plays Yuichi Masaki, a law firm investigator who has been living without hope since his daughter's suicide. Makida plays Maki Mochizuki, who is asked to "find her family" and travels to the town where she once lived with her family as a buddy. Other talented actors who appear in the cast include Mayu Tsuruta, Ichirota Miyagawa, Toshinori Omi, Genri, Shigeyuki Totsugi, Hirotaro Honda, Denden, and Nene Otsuka.
The first episode begins in 2001, when the 6-year-old son of Toshiki Kimoto (Toji) and his wife Chiharu (Otsuka) is murdered in the Fukuba district of Utsukugaoka New Town, a newly developed residential area in Saitama Prefecture. While the perpetrator remains undetected, the residents' awareness of crime prevention has increased to an abnormal level, and the area eventually begins to promote itself as a "safe and secure town." 23 years after the incident, a young woman calling herself Maki Mochizuki (Makida) visits Kikuko Iwata (Tsuruta), a lawyer with a law firm in Yokohama. Maki is the daughter of Yoshiko Mochizuki (Genri), Kikuko's friend from college, and she wants to know what happened to her family. In fact, the Mochizuki family disappeared 19 years ago, but Maki, who was just a baby, was left behind and raised in a children's home. Masaki Yuichi (Eguchi), an investigator who has been entrusted with the case by Kikuko, heads to Utsukushigaoka New Town, where the Mochizuki family once lived...
The main points of interest are: "The crazy residents who are dominated by peer pressure," "The bond between the two people with a large age gap who share a common bond as people with emotional scars," and "The disappearance of Maki's family and the abduction and murder of a child...the shocking mystery unfolding around these two incidents."
