The 12th and final episode of Fuji TV's "Monday 9" drama series "The Beginning of the Sea" (Mondays at 9pm), starring Meguro Ren of the popular group "Snow Man", will be broadcast on September 23rd.

In the previous episode... Umi (Izumiya Sena) is living at Natsu's (Meguro) apartment, and Akane (Otake Shinobu) and Shohei (Toshiki Tsuyoshi) come to deliver her luggage. Akane and Shohei hug Umi tightly and are sad to say goodbye. Seeing this, Natsu feels guilty.

One day, when Natsu comes home, she realizes that Umi is not there and panics. She calls Tsuno (Ikematsu Sosuke) and finds out that Umi has visited the library alone. When Natsu goes to pick up Umi who has returned to the Nagumo house, Umi asks, "Is it Umi's fault that everyone is lonely?" When Natsu denies it, Umi explodes with emotion, saying, "Why didn't you become my dad when I had my mommy? Why do you say we should be together? Why do you say I don't have a mommy? I've always been with my mommy! It's you who wasn't there, Natsu!" and runs out of the room.

In the final episode... Natsu wakes up on a futon on the floor, not in bed. She can see Umi's school bag and stuffed animals, but she is nowhere to be seen. She calls out to Umi, but there is no response, and the room is silent.

Meanwhile, Umi wakes up at the Nagumo house and comes into the living room still in her sleep, calling out to Natsu, but there are only Akane and Shohei there, and Natsu is nowhere to be seen. Akane says to Umi, "You said you wouldn't go home on your own, didn't you?" and Umi has no words to reply.

As Umi lies there in her pajamas, Akane and Shohei say, "Let's have breakfast," but Umi turns away, saying, "I don't want to eat." Akane makes rice balls in the kitchen and offers them to Umi, saying, "You have to eat them. Because you have to live." She then talks about how she ate rice balls on the day Mizuki (Furukawa Kotone) died.

Soon after, Natsu receives a call from Yayoi (Arimura Kasumi). When Natsu answers the phone, Yayoi tells her that she has a message from Umi...

The drama is a completely original work with the theme of "parent-child love," and is written by Ikukata Miku, directed by Kazama Taiki, and produced by Murase Ken, reuniting the team behind "Silent" in the October 2022 season.
