It has been announced that a third season of the "completely new anime" based on Rumiko Takahashi's hit manga "Ranma 1/2" is in production and will begin airing on Nippon Television in October. A teaser visual showing Ranma and Ryoga facing each other, along with the first promotional video, have been released, revealing that the third season will feature an episode centered around the terrifying secret martial art, "Explosive Pressure Point Technique."
For the third season, Konosuke Uda will continue to direct, as with the first and second seasons, and MAPPA will produce the animation. It will be exclusively streamed on Netflix immediately after its broadcast.
"Ranma 1/2" is a manga series by Takahashi, also known for "Urusei Yatsura" and "Maison Ikkoku," which was serialized in the manga magazine "Weekly Shonen Sunday" (Shogakukan) from 1987 to 1996. It depicts the chaotic daily life of Ranma Saotome, a high school martial artist who turns into a woman when splashed with cold water, and his fiancée Akane Tendo. Ranma, who was training in the indiscriminate martial arts style with his father Genma, develops a unique condition at Jusenkyo in China, where he trains: he turns into a woman when splashed with cold water and turns back into a man when splashed with hot water. Upon returning to Japan, Ranma and his father end up staying at the home of Genma's best friend, Soun Tendo , and through a series of unexpected events, he becomes engaged to Soun's daughter, Akane.
The series was previously broadcast as a TV anime from 1989 to 1992, making this its first TV anime adaptation in approximately 32 years. The first season aired from October to December 2024, and the second season from October to December 2025. The new anime has also garnered attention for the return of the original voice cast, including Kappei Yamaguchi as Ranma Saotome , Megumi Hayashibara as Ranma, and Noriko Hidaka Hidaka as Akane Tendo .
