Additional cast members have been announced for the original Shinsengumi-themed TV anime "Inheritors of the Wind," produced by Aniplex, Live2D, and Drive, including Koki Uchiyama Uchiyama as Hijikata Toshizo and Yuichi Nakamura as Isami Kondo. It was also announced that a stage event will be held on March 28th at AnimeJapan 2026, one of the world's largest anime events, with Daisuke Sakuma as Jinsuke Tachikawa, Yuki Kaji Kaji as Okita Soji , Aoi Yuki as Hyogo Koganei, and Uchiyama as Hijikata Toshizo appearing on stage.
Uchiyama commented, "I am very honored to be able to take part in this challenging original production that depicts the Shinsengumi using fresh visual techniques. The character designs are cute and there are of course many fun scenes, but there is also some very serious drama, so I think it will be a production that can be enjoyed by a wide range of people. Please look forward to it!"
Nakamura said, "I think the subject of the Shinsengumi is widely known, but in reality, I think there may actually be surprisingly few people who know the details. I have made it so that it can be enjoyed by those people, and also offers a new format for those who are familiar with it, so I would like a wide range of people to see it. I am looking forward to seeing what people think from Jinsuke's perspective!"
The film will be directed by Kawamura Tomohiro, who has worked on "GAMBA and his friends," with a script by playwright Narii Yutaka, who founded the theater group Caramel Box and has been loved by fans for his "Tachikawa Jinsuke Series," including the Shinsengumi-themed play "Inheritors of the Wind," and music by Kishida Shigeru of the band Quruli. The story follows the memory-losing Tachikawa Jinsuke, who is swept away by the waves of a turbulent era. It is said to be a "new-concept authentic period drama anime" that combines Live2D and cel animation.
