It has been revealed that Hairi Katagiri and Kiyohiko Shibukawa will make guest appearances in the TBS Sunday Theatre drama "Diamond Sleeping in the Sea" (Sundays at 9pm), starring actor Ryunosuke Kamiki. The second episode will be broadcast on November 3rd, as "Furthermore, Decisive Battle! Emergency Double Broadcast SMBC Japan Series 2024 x Election Day" will be broadcast on October 27th.
The story is about love, friendship and family set on Hashima Island (Gunkanjima) in Nagasaki Prefecture, which developed through coal mining from the beginning of the Meiji era to the postwar high economic growth period, and in modern-day Tokyo. The story is written by Akiko Nogi, directed by Ayuko Tsukahara, and produced by Junko Arai, the team behind the dramas "Unnatural" and "MIU404" (same network) and the movie "The Last Mile".
Katagiri will play Omori, the director of Hashima's only movie theater, "Showakan", and will appear in the second episode, which will air on November 3rd. Shibukawa will appear in the third episode, airing on November 10th, as Natsuyagi, a man who suddenly turns up on Hashima and calls himself a film producer.
◇Synopsis of Episode 2
Present day. Reo (Kamiki) is curious about who Izumi (Miyamoto Nobuko) is and what kind of person the "unforgettable person" who resembles her is. Izumi begins to tell Reo about Teppei (Kamiki in two roles), a man she once had feelings for, and the complicated "love story" on the island.
September 1955. On Hashima, Asako (Sugisaki Hana) looks on with mixed feelings as Teppei, who is concerned about Rina (Ikeda Elaiza), invites her out to play. Rina, who is aware of Asako's feelings for Teppei, also has mixed feelings as she avoids Teppei's affections directed towards her.
Meanwhile, Yuriko (Tsuchiya Tao) visits Nagasaki with Kensho (Shimizu Hiroya), who is attending a committee to consider plans to bring water to Hashima Island from under the sea. She encounters "square dancing," an American dance, and likes it so much that she brings it back to Hashima. She immediately gathers Teppei, Asako, Kensho, and Rina together to start practicing, hoping to set up a club. Meanwhile, a large typhoon is approaching Hashima Island...
