It has recently been revealed that actress Miori Takimoto will star in the drama series "Twisted Sisters," which will air on NHK BS and BS Premium 4K starting in January 2027. The drama is based on the manga of the same name by Kazumi Yamashita, known for "The Life of Professor Yanagisawa" and "Land." Takimoto will play the main character, Rikako Iozumi, a shojo manga artist.
The drama will humorously depict the clashes and struggles between two overly eccentric sisters, their small moments of compromise, and the sometimes annoying yet endearing human relationships.
Four sisters, who constantly quarreled whenever they met and hadn't been in contact for 20 years, suddenly receive a phone call from the third daughter, manga artist Iozumi Rikako. Her father is critically ill. The caller identifies herself as "your sister." A will triggers a dispute over inheritance. While one might expect a bitter family feud to begin, a strange kind of sisterly quarrel starts instead. The sisters are thrown into chaos by the will's request that the five of them live together in the mansion he left behind, only to discover that there is another sister they didn't know about. Thus, five half-sisters, separated by more than half a century in age, end up living under the same roof. Though they are related by blood, their hearts are far apart. Will the day ever come when these sisters become a true "family"?
Takimoto said, "In Kazumi Yamashita's original work, when the estranged half-sisters come together, each panel is depicted in a lively and vibrant way, and I enjoyed reading it so much that I couldn't help but laugh."
"Focusing on their deceased father's will, the family ends up living in a Western-style mansion, but it's not going to be easy. The character I play, Rikako Iozumi, is a manga artist, so I think this busy daily life will be a treasure trove of material for her. The sisters may seem distorted and comical to those around them, but they are cool and endearing as they struggle and live their lives to the fullest in their own way," she said. "Director Ninomiya (Takashi) seems to enjoy filming himself, so I'm very happy to be working with him again! What kind of mishaps await them? Will the family be able to come together? I myself am very much looking forward to seeing what happens to these sisters. The broadcast is still a little while away, but I hope to see you in January next year!"
