The "TOKYO Gundam Project," which aimed to revitalize the Tokyo waterfront area, has announced its intention to cease operations. This decision comes after the life-sized Unicorn Gundam statue, which has been on display in Odaiba, Tokyo since September 2017, will be taken off display at the end of August.
The "TOKYO Gundam Project" began its activities in 2012. As its final activity, the second phase of the "GUNDAM STAMP RALLY 2026" will be held from June 8th to July 12th. On weekends and holidays, high school students hold an "English Guide" at the Festival Plaza on the 2nd floor of DiverCity Tokyo Plaza, where they use original English maps to introduce Gundam and tourist information about the waterfront area to foreign tourists visiting the area around the life-sized Unicorn Gundam statue.
The life-size statue of the Unicorn Gundam stands approximately 19.7 meters tall and weighs about 49 tons. Its ability to transform between Unicorn Mode and Destroy Mode also garnered attention. As its approximately nine-year history comes to an end, it will be displayed with new decorations leading up to the finale, and various events are planned.
The location had a life-sized Gundam, "RG1/1 RX78-2 Gundam Ver.GFT," on display since 2012, attracting many visitors, but the exhibit ended in March 2017.
