Singer Miyako Otsuki will appear on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), which airs on April 20th at 1 PM.
Ms. Otsuki will soon be 80 years old. She debuted at the age of 17, but didn't have a hit song for 20 years, and was sometimes called a "late bloomer." However, she said that she didn't mind at all because she was the type of person who would be happy as long as she had singing work. 28 years after her debut, she won the Japan Record Award with "Shiroi Kaikyo" (White Strait). Ms. Kuroyanagi was the host of the ceremony, and Ms. Otsuki said that she still feels sorry for causing Ms. Kuroyanagi worry due to an incident she had caused in the past.
Having seen both her parents off, she is now single and without family. However, she continues to live in a shared house-like arrangement with two other women her age who have also lost family members or whose children have grown up and become independent. She says that the meals they share together as a group of three women are fun, and she feels at ease when she leaves her dog behind to go to work.
