Freelance announcer Yuki Matsumaru will be a guest on the TOKYO MX talk show "Savanna Takahashi's Sauna God" (every other Saturday at 6 PM), airing on April 18th. She will chat with MC Shigeo Takahashi of "Savanna" while enjoying a sauna at the "Kenko Yokusen" public bathhouse in Nakano Ward, Tokyo.
Former TV Tokyo announcer Matsumaru was not allowed to wear a swimsuit during her time as a station announcer, so this marks her first time appearing in a "water-based" setting. She even bought her own outfit for the shoot and will be trying a cold bath for the first time.
Inside the sauna, the conversation turned to her husband, a professional keirin (bicycle racing) athlete whom she married in 2014. She explained that he often has to travel to different regions during race periods, and since he can't bring his smartphone, she has to solve any problems related to childcare on her own, which has been challenging. She also shared anecdotes unique to keirin athletes, such as her elementary school-aged son asking her, "Dad, how much did you earn this time?" as prize money is announced.
In a candid conversation about the most "perfect" moment in her life, she revealed that she was inspired to become a news anchor after seeing the movie "Anchorwoman" in junior high school. However, at the Fuji TV exam venue, her first choice, she found herself in a nearby booth with Maasa Takahashi, and recalled, "The competition was just too strong." After failing the exams for Nippon Television, TBS, and TV Asahi, she received a job offer from TV Tokyo, saying, "I approached it with the feeling that 'this is who I am, just as I am.'"
During her time at TV Tokyo, in her second year, she unexpectedly became an assistant on the late-night variety show "God Tongue." As the show gained popularity, she confessed to struggling between her dreams and reality at the time, saying, "What if I'm forced to leave news reporting? I still want to work hard at news reporting, and I was always thinking that maybe I could even leave God Tongue."
Furthermore, the show will feature valuable insights into the behind-the-scenes of his outrageous impersonations on "God Tongue," the work methods of his most respected announcer, Shinichiro Azumi Azumi, and his unique daily facial stretching routine.
