It was revealed on March 23rd that actor Ryunosuke Kamiki will appear in the Fuji TV Getsuku drama "Saba-can, Uchuu e Iku" (Mondays at 9pm), which will start on April 13th and stars Takumi Kitamura . This will be Kamiki's first appearance in a Getsuku drama in his 31-year career, and he will play a strict JAXA employee who confronts the high school teacher and students played by Kitamura, with whom he is co-starring for the first time.
This is an original coming-of-age story based on the true story of students at a fisheries high school in Fukui Prefecture who took on the big dream of developing space food. The story follows a rookie high school teacher, played by Kitamura, as he supports and accompanies his students in achieving their dreams, and grows himself along the way.
Kamiki plays Makoto Kijima, a JAXA employee. He has always harbored the dream of becoming an astronaut, which he wrote about in his elementary school graduation essay, and joined JAXA. While working as an engineer in the ISS resupply vehicle development department, he aims to become an astronaut. He applies for the irregularly held astronaut candidate selection but is unsuccessful and is ordered to transfer to the space food development department, which he did not want. He is a stoic character who is strict with himself and others, and because he is a perfectionist, he is often seen as a difficult person by those around him.
When Kamiki appeared as a guest on the November 21, 2023 broadcast of "Nonstop!", he revealed an anecdote about encountering Kitamura in the studio and called out to the camera, "Please let's co-star, Takumi-san!", which became a hot topic. Afterwards, Kitamura commented on his Instagram Stories, "He's a god to us, both former child actors," which led to many comments on social media such as "I really hope they co-star someday" and "I want to see them act together," and their long-awaited first co-starring appearance has now become a reality.
Kamiki commented on his impression of Kitamura, saying, "My impression of Kitamura is that he is a very kind, gentle, and sensitive actor. I have seen his past works, and I feel that Kitamura himself is charming, so I am increasingly drawn into the roles he plays. It is very enjoyable to be able to talk with Kitamura and watch him act up close, and I am looking forward to the upcoming filming. I think he is one of a kind."
