The film version of Chainsaw Man Chainsaw Man , based on the popular manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto , has grossed 9.61 billion yen and attracted over 6.28 million viewers in the 87 days since its release on September 19th. This puts it in 56th place on the list of all-time box office grosses in Japan.
As the seventh gift for moviegoers, it has been announced that a booklet titled "Memorial Collection" containing a new interview with original author Fujimoto after watching the film will be distributed from December 20th. The book will look back on the film and will include new illustrations of Denji and Reze by main animator Shoichi, pre-release countdown illustrations and new comments from the production staff, illustrations released at overseas events, and key visuals that have been released so far. A cover illustration drawn by character designer Kazutaka Sugiyama and an illustration page by Shoichi have also been released.
Reze's dance video "Reze Dance," released on December 12th, is also becoming a hot topic. The video shows Reze dancing to the theme song "IRIS OUT" by Kenshi Yonezu, and in the three days since its release, it has become a trending topic, with approximately 1.5 million likes and over 140 million views on X, and approximately 14.64 million views on YouTube Shorts.
"Chainsaw Man" is a dark hero action story that follows Denji, a boy possessed by a demon, as he works as a devil hunter. Part 1 was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha) from December 2018 to December 2020. Part 2 has been serialized on Shueisha's manga app "Shonen Jump +" since July 2022. The total number of copies of the comics published has exceeded 34 million.
The "Reze" arc, which also appeared at the end of the TV anime series that aired from October to December 2022, tells the story of Reze and the main character, Denji, who became a hot topic. While Denji is excited about a date with his crush, Makima, he takes shelter from the rain and meets Reze, a young girl who works at a cafe. The episode will be directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara, who served as the action director for the TV anime, and produced by MAPPA.
