It has recently been announced that actress Yui Narumi will be playing the heroine in the drama series "The Uncertain Courtroom of Themis," which will begin airing on January 6, 2026, on NHK's "Drama 10" slot (General TV, Tuesdays at 10 PM). The series is a courtroom drama about a judge with a developmental disorder who takes on complex cases while struggling with his own unique characteristics. Narumi will play lawyer Noa Onozaki, who quickly identifies the unique traits of the protagonist, Ando Kiyoharu, played by Matsuyama Kenichi, and plots to use them in her own trials.
This is Narumi's first time playing the heroine in a drama. She plays Onozaki, a lawyer who left a major law firm in Tokyo and came to Maebashi after a certain incident. While there's no chance for a lawyer to win against the prosecution, which boasts a 99.9% conviction rate in criminal cases, she approaches Ando, hoping that she can find a way to break through by making good use of his special qualities. However, as she interacts with Ando, she comes into contact with his anguish and loneliness, and before she knows it, she finds herself influenced in unexpected ways.
Narumi commented, "While this work is a legal suspense, I felt it was also a new type of human drama that portrays human nature in a delicate and unique way. I think Onozaki Noa is a person with a strong sense of justice who wants to save the lives of those she meets, even if she cannot save many people. She is torn between that sense of justice and reality, and her heart nearly breaks many times. I have experienced such moments myself, so I felt an affinity with the role. In the midst of all this, she meets Ando, who continues to pursue the truth despite his own unique characteristics, and I hope you will pay attention to the heartwarming human story of how she gradually grows and changes as a lawyer and as a person."
Additionally, it was announced that Tsunematsu Yuri, Yamazaki Juno, Mikako Ichikawa, Wakui Emi, and Kenichi Endo will also be appearing in the film.
Tsunematsu plays Ochiai Chika, an elite assistant judge who frowns at the trouble Ando causes and tries to uphold the strictness of the law; Yamazaki plays Furukawa Shinji, a prosecutor who is thrown into fierce debate with Onozaki while being thrown around by Ando's unpredictable trial progress; Ichikawa plays Tsumura Ayano, a mysterious enforcement officer who provides Ando and the others with information about the case but whose true intentions are difficult to read; Wakui plays Yamaji Kaoru, a psychiatrist who diagnoses Ando's characteristics and advises him on how to live in society; and Endo plays Kadokura Shigeru, a judge who is scolded by the court president for Ando's numerous disturbances but secretly has high hopes for the unconventional man.
