It has been revealed that writer and director Suzuki Matsuo will be making a guest appearance on the 28th episode of the musical program "Live Broadcast! Yoshio Inoue Musical Hour 'Yoshio's Mu'," which will be broadcast and streamed live on WOWOW on December 3rd. Matsuo, who heads the theater company Otona Keikaku, has written and directed a musical adaptation of his own novel, "Welcome to the Quiet Room," which will be performed from January 2026. In addition to Matsuo, Miyu Sakihi, who plays the main character, and Yuya Matsushita, who plays his partner, will also make guest appearances on the program.
"Welcome to the Quiet Room" is set in a closed ward of a psychiatric hospital and realistically depicts the daily journey of people with mental health issues as they move from despair to recovery. It received high praise, including being nominated for the 134th Akutagawa Prize. In 2007, Matsuo wrote and directed a film adaptation. The story depicts the protagonist Sakura Asuka's interactions with the other patients at the psychiatric hospital, as well as her unique relationship with her partner. While dealing with serious themes, it also contains elements of comedy and fantasy, and Matsuo had been planning to turn it into a musical someday.
Sakihi, who plays the lead role of Asuka in the musical "Welcome to the Quiet Room The Musical," joined the Takarazuka Revue in 2010 and became the top female lead in the Snow Troupe in 2014. After leaving the troupe in 2017, she has been active in many musical and stage productions, as well as appearing in TV dramas and films. Her recent stage appearances include "The Last Remake of Don Quixote," "The Heike Story : The Butterfly's Slash," "Cain & Abel" (2025), "Groundhog Day," "Kiki the Flying Trapeze," "Come From Away" (2024), "Call of the Girl City" and "Matilda" (2023).
Matsushita, who plays Asuka's partner, debuted as a solo artist in 2008. He starred in his first stage production, " Black Butler Music Ball - That Butler, Friendship" (2009). Since then, he has been active in both music and acting. His recent stage appearances include "Marie Curie," "Kinky Boots," and "Cain & Abel" (2025), "IN THE HEIGHTS," "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood" (2024), "Asakusa Kid," and "Pacific Overtures" (2023).
The program will feature a special medley of numbers from "Welcome to the Quiet Room The Musical" for the first time, and all members, including MC Yoshio Inoue, are also scheduled to sing songs from the popular musical.
The 28th episode of "Live Broadcast! Yoshio Inoue Musical Hour 'Yoshio's Musical'" will be broadcast live and streamed live on WOWOW Live and WOWOW On Demand from 10:00 PM on December 3rd.
Additionally, a related program, the film "Welcome to the Quiet Room," will be broadcast and streamed on WOWOW Cinema and WOWOW On Demand from 11:00 a.m. on January 11, 2026.
