Is the timing of the "evening invitation" in the drama "Good evening, this is the Asayama family" just too bad?

The first episode of the TV drama series "Good evening, this is the Asayama family" (ABC TV/TV Asahi, Sundays at 10:15pm), co-starring actors Nakamura Anne and Ozawa Yukiyoshi, aired on July 6th, and the timing of Ozawa's character Kenta's "evening invitation" to his wife Asako, played by Nakamura, became a hot topic.

The drama is based on the serial diary "Going Backwards" by Shin Adachi, who also made headlines for his work on the NHK Asadora drama "Boogie Woogie" in the second half of 2023, and will be written and directed by Adachi himself. The story depicts the Asayama family of four: the father, Kenta, a screenwriter who works on nationally popular dramas; the mother, Asako, who also serves as a producer for the film Kenta directs; their daughter, Choko, a high school freshman in the midst of her rebellious phase; and their son, Haruta, a sixth-grader with autism spectrum disorder.

In the first episode, Asako was seen working hard to make Kenta's long-held dream of debuting as a film director a reality. Her acquaintance, film producer Kiriko (Honami Sato), suggested using popular actor Shinnosuke Miyama to make the film a reality. However, Kenta, who is a bit timid, was reluctant to cast Shinnosuke.

After the children had fallen asleep, Asako tried to persuade Kenta. Kenta reluctantly agreed, but suddenly asked, "Can we do it tonight?", inviting him out for the night. Asako snapped, "Huh?! Why did that happen? I don't understand!", to which Kenta replied, "But I want some energy. If I'm going to meet such a strong actor, I'll be nervous, won't I?" Asako raised her voice and said, "When you're a director, you have to face him every day, so this is not the time to be saying things like that!" and returned to her bedroom alone.

In response to Kenta's comments, viewers on social media responded with comments such as, "LOL, they were in the middle of talking about work and then they decided to have sex," "How did this turn of events lead to us wanting to do it today lol," "What an incredible husband," "Stop saying it's okay to do it at this timing," and "Now I can see that your husband is a weird guy."
