A stage greeting to commemorate the re-screening of the theatrical advance version of the latest work in the popular anime series "Gundam", "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-", was held at TOHO Cinemas Shinjuku (Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo) on June 28th, with Tomoyo Kurosawa, who plays Amate Yuzuriha (Machu), Director Kazuya Tsurumaki, and series composition and scriptwriter Yoji Enokido appearing. The TV anime series "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX" has been a hot topic due to the appearance of characters from "Mobile Suit Gundam" and "Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam", and Director Tsurumaki and Enokido explained how Lalah Sune from "Mobile Suit Gundam" came to appear in the series.
Enokido explained, "Director Tsurumaki created almost all of the main characters. Machu is the protagonist, and we had to draw a clear line that she is a girl who grows. Machu is the type who is headstrong, and doesn't seem to listen to what others say. How will this girl grow? That will be one of the core questions. Ideally, I think that meeting older people, women, will help her grow. She meets people like Shiiko Sugai and Anki, people she would never meet if she were living at a school. I wanted her to have a decisive encounter as we reach the climax."
He continued, "Director Tomino Yoshiyuki wanted to show Amuro Ramba Ral and Hamon in the Earth arc of First Gundam. He thought the story about how it was something that was necessary before becoming a Newtype was interesting. He tried to include an Earth arc. I thought it would be good to have a man and a woman, so I tried to make Miharu and Kai in the outline. Miharu has become a high-ranking figure in Zeon's intelligence department, and is secretly in contact with Sharia Bull. He proposed a spy-like story, but the director didn't really get it. There was also talk about how Matilda might be good."
Kurosawa seemed surprised when he heard the "phantom idea." According to Enokido, "Amuro's parents are separated. That's why we needed a couple that was close to Amuro. It's not depicted, but Machu lives with his father and mother. There's only Lalah." This was the "decisive factor," and Director Tsurumaki nodded and said, "If you look at it now, you might think that there's only Lalah, but originally it was different."
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX is also a hot topic as it is the first collaboration between Sunrise, which is responsible for the Gundam series, and khara, known for the Evangelion series. Ahead of the broadcast of the TV anime series, a pre-release theatrical version, which reconstructed some episodes, began screening on January 17th, and has been showing again since June 20th. The TV anime series began airing on Nippon TV in April, with the final episode airing late at night on June 24th.
