A Jujutsu Kaisen screening was held on June 20th at Gege Akutami (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) and nine other theaters in seven prefectures for the compilation of the Jujutsu Kaisen: The Complete Movie - Kaigyoku/Gyokusetsu of the TV anime series " Kaigyoku/Gyokusetsu ," based on the popular manga by Akutami Gege. This was the first time that a cheering screening was held for the " Jujutsu Kaisen" anime series. At TOHO Cinemas Ikebukuro (Toshima-ku, Tokyo), a wide range of fans gathered, mainly women, including men and children.
"Kaigyoku/Gyokusetsu" is a 5-episode episode that began airing in July 2023, depicting the "blue spring that can never be returned" of the "two strongest people,"Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto, during their time at Jujutsu Technical College. In addition to the main story, the movie compilation includes a new mini-anime, "The Movie Compilation Juju Stroll," which depicts Gojo, Geto, and Shoko Ieiri at a movie theater.
At the cheering screening, fans, towels, glow sticks and other cheering goods are allowed to be brought in. When the logos of companies such as Toho were displayed at the beginning, a shout of "Toho!" was heard, and the cheering screening began. For this cheering screening, the official website provided character colors as a reference: light blue for Gojo, yellow for Geto, and light green for Shoko. When a character made their first appearance, the audience "cheering" by waving penlights in the character's color and calling out their name. When Fushiguro Toji appeared, the venue was filled with laughter, with shouts of "Toji!" and even some quips.
Perhaps because the storyline had both serious and comical elements, the audience commented on small details, such as the scene where Gojo and Geto walked listlessly, or the way Geto made tea, which turned into a comedy routine. Also, in scenes that highlighted the coolness of Gojo and Geto, excited cheers of "Whoo!" and "Handsome!" arose.
During the powerful battle scenes, the audience cheered on their favorite characters by waving penlights in their favorite character's color. In particular, when Gojo unleashed his "Blue" spell, his "Red" spell, and his "Purple" spell, the penlights instantly became unified in each color, uniting the venue.
As the story progressed and Riko Amanai met her end, a heavy atmosphere hung over the venue, but it was also striking to see the many voices of concern and encouragement that were heard as Geto, who was growing haggard, said things like, "Are you OK?", "Don't worry alone!" and "Don't leave Geto alone." At the end, illustrations of Gojo, Geto and Shoko's "blue spring" were displayed one after another, and among the sounds of sobbing, there were also wishes of "be happy." When the screening ended, the venue was filled with thunderous applause, and many audience members expressed their gratitude by saying, "Thank you!" The audience was filled with a variety of emotions, including laughter, excitement, tears and gratitude, at the first cheering screening in the series.
