It has been revealed that "Angel Flight THE MOVIE," the sequel to the popular TV drama "Angel Flight," in which actress Ryoko Yonekura plays an international funeral director, will be exclusively distributed on Amazon's video streaming service "Prime Video" from February 13, 2026.
The novel "Angel Flight: International Funeral Home Specialist" by Ryoko Sasa, winner of the 10th Kaiko Takeshi Non-Fiction Award, has been made into a drama. The story follows the activities of an international funeral home specialist who transports the bodies of Japanese people who died overseas back to Japan, and foreigners who died in Japan back to their home countries. It will be distributed on Prime Video in 2023, and will premiere on NHK BS and BS Premium 4K in 2024. It has also been broadcast on the general channel since May this year, and has been very popular.
Yonekura plays Izawa Nami, a single mother and powerful company president. Following on from the previous film, the script will be written by Furusawa Ryota, who has worked on "The Confidence Man JP" and other works, and the film will be directed by Horikirizono Kentaro, who has worked on the historical drama "Atsuhime" and NHK's Saturday drama "Hagetaka."
◇Comment from Ryoko Yonekura
I was originally a big fan of the original "Angel Flight: International Funeral Home Specialist," so I'm happy to be able to deliver this story again in the form of "THE MOVIE," inheriting the thoughts of the author, Ryoko Sasa. In this work, each and every life has its own story, and each has its own love and bond. The message is that every life has meaning. The staff and cast have worked together to create a film that shows the members of Angel Hearth sincerely facing the bereaved families and the deceased, so I'm sure I'll cry again when I see the finished film. I hope everyone will watch it while thinking of their loved ones.
◇Comment from Ryota Kosawa
Thanks to everyone's support, that wonderful group of people will come together once again. This time, it's a movie, so it's a new challenge. But the core of what I want to portray remains the same. To portray "death" is to portray "life," and this work taught me that every infinite life of someone is a drama that needs to be told. I hope that this work will make people want to think for a moment about the life of someone close to them. I am grateful to be able to connect another bead made from the jewel that Ryoko Sasa left behind.
◇Comment from Kentaro Horikirizono
Social media was filled with positive comments such as, "It made me think of the important people close to me and made me reexamine my current way of life." Fortunately, a sequel was decided. I want the other members to play an active role in what will happen to Nami and Yukito, and it would be meaningless if the movie version is not scaled up and surpasses the previous one. I have once again begun the days of struggling with writing the script with Furusawa. Love and bonds that emerge from a sudden death in a foreign country. This work is a love story in a broad sense. I would like to deliver a diverse story of love that spans borders.
◇Comment from Keisuke Oishi (Prime Video Japan Country Manager)
The previous Amazon Original drama "Angel Flight: The International Funeral Home Specialist" was one of the most moving works that touched people all over the world. We are very happy to be able to present it again as a movie, this time starring Ryoko Yonekura. The drama depicted the professional work of Nami Izawa, played by Yonekura, and the heartwarming story of her feelings for the bereaved families. The movie is an even larger scale story, so please look forward to it.
