78-year-old singer Saori Yuki will be appearing on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), which will air at 1:00 p.m. on June 19th.
Although she was active as a children's song singer from her childhood, she struggled to become an adult singer and experienced a period of lack of success. But what led Yuki to become a popular singer was her encounter with French pop music. She also talks about her interactions with the French maestro Paul Mauriat.
Last year, she fell off her bed at home and broke her collarbone. It was the first time she'd ever broken a bone in her life, but she didn't have surgery and performed in a concert the next day. Last year, 55 years after her debut with "Scat at Dawn," she also performed in France. She came up with the idea of performing dodoitsu in French while playing the shamisen, and went to language school. In the studio, she performed the dodoitsu at Kuroyanagi's request.
