Actor and figure skater Miyu Honda(21) and her sister, talent Sara Honda(18), appeared on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi) on June 12. Miyu, one of five siblings, talked about when she started living alone and what she felt as a child actor.
Miyu currently lives alone. When she first left her parents' home, she was homesick.
"I was so lonely that I cried every day. It was really hard for me to eat alone. Up until then, we would all eat the food my mother cooked for us as a family and we would all say it was delicious. But now it was really hard for me to be left alone."
Unable to bear the loneliness, he once returned to his parents' home in Kyoto just to see his family sleeping.
"After filming in Tokyo, I would catch the last train back to Kansai. Of course, it was late so everyone (in my family) was asleep, but I would look at their sleeping faces and catch the first train back to Tokyo in the morning."
Miyu has been working in the entertainment industry since she was three years old. As a child actress, she often traveled between Kyoto and Tokyo for auditions, and often had her parents all to herself. Miyu said, "I have five siblings, so I'm sure the others were lonely, and I felt bad that I was hogging them all to myself. Even now, when I think back to those times, I feel a little sorry, but it makes me want to keep working hard."
Meanwhile, Sara said she has looked up to Miyu since she was a child and said, "I was very proud when people around me would say things like, 'That drama was amazing,' or 'There's a poster of your sister over there,' so I'm happy. I'm also grateful that I'm able to do this kind of work thanks to my sister."
Upon hearing her sister's thoughts, Miyu was overwhelmed and said, "I feel like I'm going to cry. I can't believe that such a small girl could say something like this. I'm so happy."
