It has been announced that the five-member girl group LE SSERAFIM will be singing the theme song "Kawaii (Prod. Gen Hoshino)" for the stop-motion animation "My Melody & Kuromi," which features Sanrio's popular characters My Melody and Kuromi as the main characters. The song was produced, composed, arranged, and written by Gen Hoshino, marking his first collaboration with LE SSERAFIM. A trailer was released on YouTube, showcasing a snippet of the song. It was also announced that the anime will be exclusively distributed worldwide on Netflix on July 24th.
Hoshino created the theme song to reflect the worldview of "My Melody & Kuromi" and the charm of LE SSERAFIM, and said that it expresses "the importance and brilliance of believing in yourself and moving forward." LE SSERAFIM leader KIM CHAEWON, who is said by fans to "look like My Melody," said, "We love My Melody and Kuromi, so we were really, really happy when we heard that we would be singing the theme song!" Sakura, a member who is known among fans as a fan of Kuromi, said, "This song is filled with the theme that 'cuteness is strength.' I would be happy if I could convey the cuteness embodied by LE SSERAFIM and the core strength that turns your individuality into a weapon."
HUH YUNJIN, who participated in writing the English lyrics, commented, "I wrote the English lyrics together with Hoshino Gen. I hope you will pay attention to the lyrics as well." KAZUHA, who often wears My Melody items on social media and has been listening to Hoshino's music for a long time, said, "It was a great honor to have Hoshino Gen, who I admire, produce my song." HONG EUNCHAE shared his impressions of the anime, saying, "The world of Maryland was so cute that I was drawn in! The characters' expressions were also very rich and interesting."
The anime is an adventure story set in Maryland, where My Melody and Kuromi live. It will be directed by Tomoki Misato, known for "Pui Pui Molcar," and the script will be written by playwright Muneko Nemoto. It will be produced by TORUKU, a stop-motion studio within WIT STUDIO.
