It has been announced that the first three seasons of the TV anime "Chihayafuru," based on the popular manga by Yuki Suetsugu about competitive karuta, will be streamed for free on TVer. The first episode is currently being streamed, and one episode will be streamed daily thereafter.
"Chihayafuru" is a manga that was serialized in "BE・LOVE" from 2007 to 2022. The story is about Ayase Chihaya, who awakens to the charm of competitive karuta through her encounter with transfer student Wataya Arata, and becomes passionate about karuta together with her childhood friend Mashima Taichi and the other unique members of the karuta club. The sequel, "Chihayafuru Plus: For You," began serialization in the same magazine in December 2023.
The first season of the TV anime aired in 2011, the second in 2013, and the third in 2019-2020. A live-action movie starring actress Suzu Hirose also gained popularity. The TV drama series "Chihayafuru: Meguri", which depicts the story 10 years after the live-action movie, will begin airing on Nippon TV from Getsuku, and is also garnering attention.
