The drama is based on the manga of the same name by Nishika Hachi, which is currently being serialized on the manga app "Comic DAYS" (Kodansha). It depicts the love story that begins in 1936, when Natsumi, who was suddenly proposed to and married on zero days after dating, and Takimasa, who works for the Imperial Navy, begin their married life together.
Natsumi decided to take a walk around town with Takita to cool off in the evening. Just before, she showed off a cool-looking one-piece dress and said, "How about this outfit? It's called 'Seiryogi', which means refreshing and cool. It's very versatile in the summer." She explained the origin of the name Appappa, saying, "The hem spreads out when you walk."
After hearing the explanation, Takimasa repeated "Papa, papa. Papapapa..." as if to confirm, making Natsumi smile.
On social media, comments such as, "Appappa brings back memories. It's a word my late grandmother used to use," "Come to think of it, my grandmother used to wear appappa a lot," " Kyoko Yoshine looks so cute wearing appappa clothes," "Such cute Japanese...there was so much I didn't know," "My grandmother used to say appappa a lot and I thought, so that's what papa means!" and "Takinatsu is so cute, saying papa over and over again, just like appappa."
