It has been announced that the TV anime "Mattanare ni saitei tokitara" ("What is a Detective Nowadays?"), based on the popular manga by Masakuni Igarashi, which is currently being serialized in "Dengeki Maoh" (KADOKAWA), will be broadcast from July. It was also announced that singer-songwriter Taiiku Okazaki will be in charge of the opening theme "Suffer", and the main PV featuring the song has also been released.
Additional cast members have also been announced, including Kengo Kawanishi as Nezu Taro, a low-ranking yakuza member of a yakuza group; Fairouz Ai as Hoshino Azuha, a female university student who lives on the floor below the Nagumo Detective Agency; Watada Misaki as the lost girl Kaze-chan; Kase Yasuyuki as Mimasaka Souya, a former high school student detective; and Iijima Hajime as a muscular, macho coach who looks great in sunglasses.
Taiiku Okazaki commented, "Hey, it's Taiiku Okazaki! Yay! I'm doing the theme song! The essence of a detective is to solve cases, so if the world becomes too peaceful and there are no more crimes, detectives would go hungry! If that were to happen, I wouldn't have been asked to do the theme song, so I'd go hungry too! It's the worst! I'll go hungry!! I don't want to go hungry!! No way!!"
The series depicts the turbulent days of an older man who was once in the limelight as a famous high school detective, and his youthful, self-proclaimed beautiful high school girl (JK) assistant. Junichi Suwabe plays the protagonist, older man detective Nagame Keiichiro, and Kana Hanazawa plays JK assistant Mashiro. The original work has been serialized in Dengeki Maoh since April 2016. The total number of copies of the comics published is about 900,000.
