"Detective! Night Scoop" (ABC TV, Friday 11:17pm) is a popular variety show where "detectives" tackle the most bizarre requests and worries sent in by viewers. On the April 25th broadcast, detective Daigo Nagami investigated "Crossing Lake Biwa in a Milk Tea Carton." Also appearing were Deputy Director Futaba Katsura, Secretary Saori Masuda, and Advisor Hiroshi Maru.
The request came from a man (28) from Tokyo. The man has loved milk tea for over 20 years, ever since he was old enough to understand. Since moving to Tokyo from his hometown of Shiga Prefecture to attend university, his love has become complicated, and he has been drinking milk tea in 900ml cartons every day, washing, drying, folding, storing, and saving the cartons for the past 10 years. He now keeps 830 cartons in his home where he lives alone.
This is because the man has a secret dream. That dream is to make a boat out of a paper carton of his beloved milk tea, and row it across Lake Biwa, which spreads across his hometown in Shiga Prefecture, while taking in the magnificent scenery to the fullest. Furthermore, he will be living with his girlfriend from June this year, and she has told him not to bring it to our new home. It's truly a now or never! However, all the man has is his enthusiasm and his love for milk tea, and he has no knowledge of boat building. So, he proposes that she build a boat with the man, get in, and head for the other side of Lake Biwa together.
The course they aimed for across Lake Biwa was 1.4 km long, starting from Katata Fishing Port to Moriyama Fishing Port on the opposite shore. However, when they arrived at the site, the opposite shore was far away, and the Hira Oroshi wind was blowing hard. They immediately received advice from a crafting YouTuber and started making a boat out of paper cartons that had both buoyancy and durability. With the help of the client's mother, sister, girlfriend, and classmates, the boat was completed in five hours. They set sail in high spirits, but soon after leaving the port, the paper carton oar broke, and even Detective Nagami fell off the boat. Will the two be able to safely complete this difficult crossing of Lake Biwa, a test of physical strength?!
