It has been announced that Ota Hikari of the comedy duo Bakusho Mondai will be appearing as a voice actor in the new TV animation "Anne Shirley," based on Montgomery's masterpiece "Anne of Green Gables." Ota will play JA Harrison, a difficult and troublesome character who keeps a parrot named Ginger and is not well understood by those around him. He is always frank with Anne, and plays an advisory role with his own unique perspective, becoming an important presence in the process of Anne's growth.
Ota commented, "Anne of Green Gables is the most important book in the world. Seeing the way Anne lived her life, I realized that a 'genius' is someone who can put into words the words, 'I am happy right now.' I never thought that the day would come where I would meet in this way and actually be able to have a conversation with Anne Shirley, who taught me 'the most important thing in the world.' If this isn't happiness, then what is? God is in heaven, and all is well with the world."
"Anne of Green Gables" depicts the protagonist Anne, who is highly sensitive and can turn even sadness into joy with her brilliant imagination, as she makes repeated mistakes and grows together with her family and friends. The TV anime directed by Takahata Isao was broadcast in 1979 as the fifth installment of the "World Masterpiece Theater" series, and it has been made into an anime again. The new anime will be broadcast on NHK Educational TV from April 5th at 6:25 pm. It will depict the three volumes of the "Anne of Green Gables" series in a total of 24 episodes.
