As part of the 10th-anniversary project for "Aikatsu Stars!", a popular anime and game series based on "Aikatsu!", a new theatrical anime film, "Aikatsu Stars! ~Progress of the Stars~," has been produced and is scheduled for release in early spring 2027.
A revival screening of "Aikatsu Stars! The Movie," originally released in August 2016, began on July 3rd to commemorate its 10th anniversary. A post-screening video announced the production of a new animated film. After approximately 10 years, the original staff, including director Teruo Sato, screenwriter Yuko Kakihara, and character designer Yukiko Aikei, will be reuniting for the project.
A teaser visual featuring Yume Nijino in a new dress, along with a special trailer composed of nostalgic footage from the TV series and cuts from the new theatrical anime, have been released. Advance movie tickets, which come with an A5 clear file as a bonus, are now on sale.
Director Sato commented, "Ten years ago, I encouraged everyone by saying, 'Dreams aren't something you just dream, they're something you make come true'... and fortunately, I was able to create a new theatrical film that will allow me to convey that message to everyone again! And now, ten years later, I thought and thought and thought about what I want to convey... what I can convey... and packed it all in! This film was created with the hope that when you leave the theater after watching it, your shoulders will feel a little lighter, and that you'll be able to take another step towards the future! There are also elements that will make you want to watch it many times, so please watch it a lot!"
Scenario writer Kakihara said, "Ten years have flown by. As time passes, the dreams of our fans may also be changing. Yume and the others are still shining and running in that place. I hope that this long-awaited return of 'Aikatsu Stars!' will become a beacon of hope for those who watch it and serve as a new starting line."
The "Aikatsu!" series is a project that began in October 2012, depicting girls striving to become top idols through idol activities (Aikatsu!). To date, it has included "Aikatsu!", "Aikatsu Stars!", "Aikatsu Friends!", "Aikatsu on Parade!", and "Aikatsu Planet!". The "Aikatsu Stars!" anime aired from April 2016 to March 2018.
