It has been announced that "The Poem of Wind and Trees," an OVA (Original Video Animation) based on the manga by Keiko Takemiya, will be screened at Ikebukuro HUMAX Cinemas (Toshima Ward, Tokyo) on June 28th. The OVA was released in 1987 and directed by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko. Due to the long-standing uncertainty regarding the screening rights, this will be the first time it is shown in a movie theater.
On June 28th, the animated film "Toward the Terra," based on the manga by Takemiya, will be screened, and the OVA "The Poem of Wind and Trees" will be shown as a "reference screening." A talk show featuring Takemiya, Yasuhiko, and Yuko Sasaki, the voice actress for Gilbert in "The Poem of Wind and Trees," will also be held. Online tickets will go on sale from noon on May 1st.
"The Poem of Wind and Trees" is a shojo manga that was serialized from 1976. Set in a boarding school in late 19th-century France, it depicts the fateful love between the beautiful boy Gilbert and the sincere transfer student Serge, amidst the intertwining love, jealousy, and friendship of sensitive adolescent boys. It is known as a masterpiece that seriously tackled the theme of "boy love," which was considered taboo at the time.
