It has been revealed that actor Hideaki Ito will be appearing in the TBS Sunday Theatre "Reboot" (Sundays at 9pm) in January 2026. This will be his first appearance in a Sunday Theatre production in about 11 years, since "The Emperor's Chef" in 2015, and he will play an inspector for the Metropolitan Police Department who stands in the way of the corrupt detective played by Ryohei Suzuki, the main character.
The story is an extreme family suspense drama in which Hayase Riku, an ordinary pastry chef played by Suzuki, is framed for the murder of his wife and, in order to prove his innocence and find the real culprit, abandons his beloved family and past and takes on the identity of Gido Ayumu, a corrupt detective at the Metropolitan Police Department. The script is written by Kuroiwa Tsutomu, who has worked on many hit Sunday Theatre shows such as "Grand Maison Tokyo," "TOKYO MER: Running Emergency Room," and "My Family."
The people announced this time are those around the police who are involved with Gido, played by Suzuki. Masachika Makikita, played by Ito, is an inspector in the Metropolitan Police Department's Police Affairs Division, which is known as the "police within the police." He is a key person who suspects Hayase (played by Suzuki) of impersonating Gido and stands in his way.
The cast members of the drama include Aju Makita, Daisuke Nakagawa, Tetsuhiro Ikeda, Haru Fujita, and Kayo Noro. This will be Makita's first Sunday Theatre appearance in a year since "Mikami Sensei" (2025), and he will take on the role of Tsubasa Adachi, a young detective in the Metropolitan Police Department's First Investigative Division, Gido Unit, for the first time in his career.
Nakagawa, who is making his first appearance in a TBS drama series, will play Teramoto Keito, a detective in the Gido squad, Ikeda will play Mikami Akihiro, the section chief in charge of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department's First Investigative Division, Fujita will play Yorii Shun, a subordinate of Makita, and Noro will play Kuwabara Hitomi, an orthopedic surgeon who becomes involved in Hayase's life in an unexpected way.
Ito commented, "This is a work where humanity shines through in many scenes, not through words, but through facial expressions and quiet moments. Rather than through flashy direction, I would be happy if viewers could feel the warmth of the moments when the characters clash with each other and the different forms of love that are born there."
