The cast of the film "Meets the World" (directed by Daigo Matsui, set to be released on October 24th), starring actress Hana Sugisaki, has been announced, and it has been revealed that Kuruma from the comedy duo "Reiwa Roman" will be making his film debut. He will play a man whom Yukari, played by Sugisaki, meets at a group blind date.
Kuruma also appears in the recently released trailer. The trailer begins with Yukari (Sugisaki) suddenly standing up in a Korean restaurant and confessing to Okuyama Yuzuru (Kuruma), "I'm a rotten girl." The trailer then depicts Yukari's encounter with a beautiful hostess named Rai in the "wonderland" of Kabukicho one day, where she meets a variety of completely different people and gradually comes to accept herself.
The film is based on the novel "Meets the World" by Akutagawa Prize-winning author Hitomi Kanehara, which won the 35th Shibata Renzaburo Prize. Set in Kabukicho, the film depicts the encounters of a 27-year-old protagonist who is a big fan of the personified yakiniku manga "Meat is Mine," but cannot love himself, as he encounters a new world. This is the first film adaptation of Kanehara's novel in about 17 years, since her debut work "Snakes and Earrings," which won the 130th Akutagawa Prize.
In the film, Sugisaki plays the main character, Yukari, who pours all her love into "Meat is Mine" but cannot love herself and feels anxious and impatient about living solely on work and hobbies. Minami Kotona plays Rai, a beautiful hostess with suicidal thoughts; Itagaki Rikito plays Asahi, a married hostess who wants to be loved by the general Rihito Itagaki; Aoi Yu plays Yuki, a sharp-tongued writer who only writes about people dying; and Shibukawa Kiyohiko plays Oshin, the owner of a bar who is close to the town.
Additionally, Mariko Tsutsui will play Yukari's mother, whom Sugisaki shuns, while Kuruma, making his film debut, will play Yuzuru Okuyama, a man Yukari meets at a group blind date. Other cast members include Chihiro Kato and Misa Wada as Yukari's coworkers, Yuko Ando and Yuichiro Nakayama as people closely related to Rai, and Kanta Sato as Asahi's coworker.
It was also revealed that popular voice actors such as Ayumu Murase, Sakata Shogo, Yohei Azakami, and Tamaru Atsushi will appear in the animated adaptation of the manga "Meat is Mine," and that the theme song and music will be performed by the popular band "Creepy Nuts."
