On July 2nd, screenwriter Adachi Shin and his wife Akiko attended a press conference in Tokyo for the drama series "Good evening, this is the Asayama family," which begins on the 6th (ABC TV/TV Asahi, Sundays at 10:15pm *first episode at 10:30pm).
The drama is based on Shin's serial diary "Going Backwards," which was also a topic of discussion for the NHK Asadora drama "Boogie Woogie" in the second half of 2023. Shin himself will be the scriptwriter and director, and Akiko will also be involved as a co-producer. The drama stars actors Anne Nakamura and Yukiyoshi Ozawa, and follows Kenta Asayama (Ozawa), a scriptwriter who works on national dramas but is a "disappointing husband" at home, as his "angry wife" Asako (Nakamura), in a family drama in which they repeatedly clash and overcome the family's difficulties.
Shin said he has long felt sympathy for Ozawa, who plays the role of a model, and said, "It's embarrassing to say it myself, but I think that Ozawa and I have a sense of 'disappointment without looking disappointing.' I've always had a vague feeling that he has a bit of me in him. I thought it would be interesting if Ozawa could play the role, so I asked him, and it was even better than I imagined. It's so much fun to watch."
Hearing this comment, Akiko, who was next to him, snapped, "(Shin) has always said that he feels a similar scent, but that's not true!" She also revealed that he had always complained, "I'm not a disappointing man," leaving Shin embarrassed.
Shin said about the drama, "There are no murders, adultery or other big incidents, but I think it does a good job of depicting what people's lives are like." Akiko gave her stamp of approval, saying, "The dialogue is realistic, and that's the only thing I think is really good about it. There are no incidents or anything, so you'll have to bear with it at first, but I think you'll enjoy each character because they're all so charming, so I'd definitely recommend watching the first episode."
