It was revealed on June 11th that a sequel to TBS's Sunday Theatre drama "VIVANT" (Sundays at 9pm), which aired in July 2023 and starred Masato Sakai, will be broadcast in the same time slot in 2026 (broadcast date to be determined). Sakai held a press conference after making a live appearance on the station's morning information program "THE TIME," (Monday to Friday at 5:20am) on the same day.
Sakai said that when he read the script, "I cried out at the end of the second series. I thought, 'What are we going to do with that?'" Fukuzawa Katsuo is in charge of the original story, direction and production. Fukuzawa, who will be teaming up with Sakai again in this powerful tag team, also attended the press conference. Regarding filming, Fukuzawa said, "We'll be shooting mostly overseas," with filming taking place over a period of around three months, revealing that the location is "a very pro-Japanese country, but not many Japanese people know about it. It's a place with mythical legends." Sakai said, "I went to the country's pavilion at the (Osaka-Kansai) Expo. I'm really looking forward to it."
The sequel will be a continuation of the story, starting immediately after the last scene of the previous film, and there will be no changes to the character of the main character, Nogi Yusuke, played by Sakai. The cast members other than Sakai will be announced in the future. Kazutaka Iida will serve as producer. The previous film was shot on a grand scale in Mongolia, which drew a lot of attention, and the sequel will also be shot on location overseas, traveling around the world.
