It has been revealed that "Out Run," a classic Sega driving game that was a huge hit in the 1980s, will be made into a movie. Sega announced on April 22nd that it has begun development of the movie with Universal Pictures.
"OutRun" is a driving game that started as an arcade game and gained worldwide popularity in the 1980s. It pioneered a new genre of driving games in which the player races through the beautiful scenery of each course, and gave birth to a sub-genre of electronic music called "OutRun." Numerous titles have been released in the series, including titles for home game consoles, and it has become one of SEGA's most popular series worldwide.
The film will be directed by Michael Bay, who has worked on the "Transformers" series and "Ambulance." Bay will also be producing alongside Brad Fuller of his production company Platinum Dunes. Jason Rothwell (Polar) will be writing the script. Sydney Sweeney, who worked on "Pretender" and "Immaculate," and Sega's Toru Nakahara will also serve as producers, with Sega's Shuji Utsumi participating as executive producer.
