It was revealed on March 17 that actor Hiroshi Tamaki will be appearing in the movie "YUKIKAZE" (directed by Toshihisa Yamada), starring Yutaka Takenouchi. This is the first time that Tamaki will be acting alongside Takenouchi. He will play Hayase Kohei, a reliable senior corporal on the destroyer "YUKIKAZE," captained by the main character, Kazutoshi Terazawa (played by Takenouchi).
The film depicts on a grand scale the lives and fates of people who struggled to survive in the turbulent times that spanned from the Pacific War to the postwar period and on to the present day. It brings to life as fiction based on historical fact the many roles played by the Yukikaze, the only one of the 38 main destroyers to have survived the war without sinking and known as the "unsinkable ship." It will be released on August 15th.
Tamaki revealed, "When I read the script for the movie 'Yukikaze,' I felt that it contained a strong message about 'living' and 'connecting with future generations.'"
"I approached the filming hoping to convey the message of this movie through the character Hayase, whom I played, and the people who lived hard in wartime Japan. This year marks 80 years since the end of the war in Japan, but conflicts are still occurring in various countries and regions around the world, so I believe that this is not something from the distant past, or something that only affects other people. I hope that we can always be considerate of one another, that the world and Japan will be filled with kindness, and that a peaceful future will be created."
In addition to Tamaki, appearances by Daiken Okudaira, Touma Ami, Tanaka Rena, and Kiichi Nakai were also announced.
Okuhira will play Inoue Sota, a young torpedo officer on the Yukikaze, Touma will play Hayase Sachi, the younger sister of Hayase Kohei, Tanaka will play Terazawa Shizu, the wife of Terazawa Kazutoshi, and Nakai will play Ito Seiichi, commander-in-chief of the Imperial Japanese Navy's Second Fleet.
Additionally, the film will feature Kanji Ishimaru, Takahiro Fujimoto, Miura Masami, Yamauchi Keiya, Kawaguchi Takahiro, Nakabayashi Taiki, and Tanaka Mio.
