Actor Hideki Takahashi and his wife Mieko will appear on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi) on February 3rd at 1pm. His wife, who retired from showbiz after getting married, rarely appears on TV, so Hideki seems a little nervous as he speaks. The show began on February 2nd, 1976, and today marks its 50th anniversary.
The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last year. They have been married for 50 years since 1974, and they have only had two fights, in the first year and the 11th year. 54 years ago, Hideki met Mieko, who was an actress under the name Kobayashi Akiko at the time, while co-starring in a drama. When they first met, the word "marriage" came to his mind, and after a desperate "hint" they decided to get married, but it was then that they discovered that they had a debt of nearly 40 million yen.
Although their marriage got off to a rocky start, the couple remains deeply in love and say the happiest moment in their 50 years of marriage was the birth of their daughter, Maasa. They now have two grandchildren.
