It has been announced that a compilation of the first season of the TV anime "Kaiju No. 8," based on the popular manga by Naoya Matsumoto currently being serialized on Shueisha's manga app "Shonen Jump + (Plus)," will be screened in theaters for three weeks only from March 28, 2025. "Hoshino's Day Off" will be screened at the same time.
Key visuals for the compilation and "Hoshino's Day Off" have also been released. The compilation features an impressive visual of the protagonist, Kafka Hibino, the man who became a monster, aka Kaiju No. 8, while the visual for "Hoshino's Day Off" shows a suspicious-looking Hoshina with a smile, and Reno and Iharu tailing him. In "Hoshino's Day Off," Reno, who has forgotten how to spend his days off due to his days immersed in training, senses something unusual about Hoshina, who is also off duty, and decides to carry out a tailing operation with Iharu.
"Kaiju No. 8" has been serialized in "Shonen Jump +" since July 2020. Set in Japan, a monster superpower where monsters mercilessly invade everyday life, the story follows the adventures of the protagonist, Hibino Kafka, whose body has been transformed into a monster by a mysterious creature. It also won the top prize in the Web Manga category of the Next Manga Awards 2021. The comic has sold over 16 million copies in Japan.
The anime is produced by Production I.G, which also produced the Ghost in the Shell series, and Studio Khara, which also produced the Rebuild of Evangelion series, is in charge of monster design and works. The first season of the TV anime aired from April to June, and was also a hot topic when it was streamed worldwide in real time on Twitter in conjunction with the TV broadcast.
