To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the debut of rock band Kai Band this November, WOWOW will be broadcasting and streaming special programs on Kai Band for over a year from November.
Kai Band ran through the 1970s and 1980s and continues to captivate fans with their messages, melodies, and overwhelming live performances.
WOWOW will interview Kai Yoshihiro in November as a prologue, in which he will talk about his thoughts on the 50th anniversary and introduce the special lineup for this season. In December and January 2025, WOWOW will broadcast and stream rare live footage from the past. After that, WOWOW will continue to broadcast and stream the Kai Band, which has been paving the way for Japanese rock history for half a century, every month.
The program lineup until January next year is as follows. All programs will be broadcast and streamed on WOWOW Live and WOWOW On Demand.
◇ "Kai Band 50th Anniversary WOWOW Special Year ~Prologue~" (Broadcast and stream from 5:00 pm on November 30th)
As a prologue, an interview with Kai Yoshihiro will be broadcast and streamed. In the program, Kai himself will talk about the Kai Band, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary since its formation and debut, and will also mention the nationwide tour "KAI BAND 50TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR CIRCUS & CIRCUS 2024" that started in October. In addition, the upcoming lineup of consecutive special features delivered in collaboration with WOWOW will be introduced.
◇ "Kai Band Special Live "Rolling Birthday 60"" (Scheduled to be broadcast and streamed in December)
A one-night special performance held at TOKYO DOME CITY HALL (Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo) on April 7, 2013, Kai's 60th birthday, will be broadcast and streamed. The songs include "Winged One," "Telephone Neurosis," "A Night in Tokyo," "Corner of Betrayal," "Anna-2012," "Ice Lips," "Popcorn in the Mouth," "Outlaw," "HERO (The Time to Become a Hero Is Now)," and "Cover Your Ears to Danny Boy."
◇"Kai Band Symphony" (scheduled for broadcast and distribution in January 2025)
A live performance held at Tokyo International Forum Hall A (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) on November 15, 2014 will be broadcast and distributed. At the time, Kai said, "Looking back on the 40-year history of the Kai Band, this is an unprecedented attempt on an unprecedented scale." Songs include "ALL DOWN THE LINE - Chase at 25," "Brighton Rock," "Spiral Staircase," "Beautiful Energy," "The Day the Wind Sang," "Anna - 2012," "LADY," "Kinpouge," "Blood in the Street," "The One with Wings," "Icy Lips," "Cheering on Popcorn," "Wanderer (Outlaw)," "Like a Fire in the Wind," "HERO (The Time to Become a Hero Is Now)," and "Season of Storms."
