A preview screening event for the third season of the TV anime " Mushoku Tensei to Shosetsuka ni Naro on the novel submission site "Shosetsuka ni Narou," was held on June 20th at TOHO Cinemas Roppongi Hills (Minato-ku, Tokyo). The third season begins with the "Eris Training Arc," and the "mad dog" Eris, who did not appear in the second season, makes a reappearance. In addition to Ai Kakuma, who plays Eris Boreas Greyrat, Haruka Tomatsu Tomatsu, who plays Nina Farion, a swordsman who harbors a rivalry with Eris, and Yoko Hikasa, who plays Isolde Cruel, a practitioner of the Suijin-ryu sword style, appeared on stage and spoke about the recording of the third season.
Tomatsu, who plays Nina, a new character in the third season, shared her thoughts, saying, "I never thought I'd be able to be involved in such a popular series. It's nerve-wracking to join midway through, and I also feel a responsibility not to ruin the atmosphere of the previous voice recording sessions. I was nervous, but it was a lot of fun and I felt relieved."
On this day, it was announced that Ms. Hikasa would be playing Isolde, and she made a surprise appearance. "I felt that the theme might be 'water' when I was acting. What is water? It doesn't retain a shape, but the word 'to carry something away' came to me. I didn't think it needed to be rigid. She has something that flows intensely, but she doesn't show it and just lets it go," she said, describing her approach to playing Isolde.
As Kakuma said, "They have some similarities, but they're also completely different," indicating that Ellis, Nina, and Isolde are all very different. Regarding the interactions between the three, Tomatsu said, "It's like they're having a conversation, but also like they're not..." to which Hikasa nodded and said, "It's not really a conversation, is it? It might be more accurate to say they're standing side by side."
Hikasa said, "These three characters fit together really well, and I think that atmosphere comes through in the work. I hope you will enjoy Ellis's growth," and Tomatsu added, "The first two episodes are really fun. I hope you will watch Ellis's adventures to the end!"
"Mushoku Tensei" is a light novel by Rifujin na Magote, which began serialization on "Shosetsuka ni Naro" in 2012. The story follows a 34-year-old unemployed man who dies but is reborn in a fantasy world of swords and magic, where he uses his intelligence and regrets from his previous life to start a new life. It is a popular work considered a pioneer of "Narou-kei" light novels, and has been published in book form by MF Books (KADOKAWA), with a manga adaptation also being produced. The series has sold over 18 million copies in total.
The first season of the TV anime aired from January to March 2021 for the first cour and from October to December of the same year, and the high-quality animation produced by Studio Bind, an animation production company established specifically for the series, also became a topic of discussion. The first cour of the second season aired from July to September 2023, and the second cour aired from April to June 2024.
At the screening, it was announced that episodes 1 and 2 of the third season, "Eris's Training Arc," will be broadcast consecutively as the first episode. TOKYO MX, ABEMA, and d Anime Store will broadcast and stream the episodes in advance, starting at 8 PM on July 4th, the day before the previously announced premiere date of July 5th.
