The animated film " Lookback, " based on the manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto , known for works such as " Chainsaw Man ," will be broadcast on NHK General on March 22nd at 11 PM. This will be the first time the film is shown on terrestrial television.
" Lookback" was released in July 2021 on Shueisha's manga app "Shonen Jump+" and recorded over 2.5 million views on its first day. It was also selected as the number one manga in the male category of "Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2022" and nominated for the "Manga Taisho 2022," which generated a lot of buzz. The story follows two girls whose unwavering passion for manga connects them, but then an event occurs that shatters everything... Fujino, a fourth-grader who serializes a four-panel manga in the school newspaper, is praised by her classmates, but then her teacher tells her that they want to publish a four-panel manga by Kyomoto, a classmate who is absent from school.
The anime was directed by Kiyotaka Oshiyama , who has worked as a key staff member on Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance You Can (Not) Advance," "Arrietty," and "The Wind Rises, " and he also handled the script and character design. Studio Dorian, headed by Oshiyama, produced the anime. The casting of Yuumi Kawai as Fujino and Mizuki Yoshida as Kyomoto also garnered attention. The film was released on June 28, 2024, and won numerous awards, including the Best Animation Film award at the 48th Japan Academy Awards.
