It has been revealed that Takashi Miike, known as the "master of violence," will be the general director of the TV anime "Nyaight of the Living Cat," based on a cat manga currently being serialized in "Monthly Comic Garden" (Mag Garden) and other publications. The anime is being produced by a team of staff who love cats and are loved by cats, with director Tomohiro Kamiya, known for "MIX MEISEI STORY ~Second Summer, Beyond the Sky~," series composition by Shingo Irie, known for "Chi. -About the Movement of the Earth-," character design by Takao Maki, known for "Basilisk: Ouka Ninpou Chou," and music by Koji Endo, who has worked with Miike on various previous productions. The anime will be produced by OLM, known for "Pokémon."
The film tells the shocking story of a mysterious virus that turns humans who touch a cat into a cat, causing a "Meandermic" to break out all over the world... A teaser visual full of cats, with the tagline "Everything turns into cats...", and a teaser PV have been released. The music used in the PV is the main theme of the anime, with former Megadeth member Marty Friedman on guitar and Heidi Shepherd of the American heavy metal band Butcher Babies providing the death voice.

Director Kamiya said, "I am participating in the production as a director under the direction of general director Miike. Working on this project, including working with Director Miike, has given me experiences that I could not have had on other projects, so I am very much enjoying it. Not only the main staff, but there are cat lovers in each department, and the staff gather together based on cats, wanting to work on it, wanting to be involved, etc., and they have a mysterious way of improving the quality because it is a project about cats. I feel that the work is filled with so much love for cats. Cats are amazing. The work itself is probably one that you don't see very often, so I hope you will enjoy that as well."
It was also announced that an audition for a "cat voice actor" will be held, titled "We want to borrow a cat's voice" project. They are looking for a cat voice to appear in the climax scene of the anime. The selection will be done by the staff, including general director Miike. When the recruitment began, a video of general director Miike, dressed as a cat, announcing the recruitment was posted on YouTube.
The series is a cat manga written by Hawkman and illustrated by Mekarouts, which has been serialized since 2020. The story is set in the year 20XX, when a virus suddenly appears that turns humans who touch cats into cats, causing a "Meowdemic." The story follows humans as they resist the temptation to touch cats and try to survive in a world full of cats. Five volumes of the manga have been released. The anime will air in 2025.
