It has been announced that Hinaki Yano will be appearing as a voice actor in the TV anime "From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman," which is based on a popular work that originated from the novel submission site "Let's Become a Novelist." Yano will play Vissel Habeler (Fiss), a magic swordsman who is considered to be the ace of the Kingdom Magic Division. A character PV for Fiss has also been released on YouTube.
Fiss is a "countryside swordsman known only to those in the know," who studied under the main character Beryl Gardenant and has received the Master's degree, and is skilled in flexible tactics that combine swordsmanship and magic. He speaks in a matter-of-fact tone, but he is actually mischievous. Yano commented, "Although the title says old man... I can really see that he is really cool and loved, and I think that he has his own charm because he is an old man. I will do my best to bring out Vissel's rich expressions even more!"
The work is a light novel written by Shigeru Sagazaki and illustrated by Tetsuhiro Nabeshima. A classic fantasy about a powerful man who is unconsciously unrivaled as a swordsman. Beryl Gardenant runs a small swordsmanship dojo in a rural village, and is visited by his former student, Allusia, who rose to become the head of the kingdom's knights at a young age. He ends up going to the royal capital as a special instructor for the knights... This is the story. The comic adaptation by Kazuki Toda was selected for the Piccoma Award 2023 and has been gaining popularity, with the total number of copies of the series exceeding 5.5 million.
The anime will be directed by Akio Kasumi and produced by Passione and Hayabusa Films. Hiroaki Hirata will play the main character, Beryl Gardenant. It will be broadcast on TV Asahi's anime slot "IMAnimation" from April 2025.
