According to the Oricon Weekly Blu-ray Disc (BD) ranking (dated August 10th), announced on August 6th, the Infinity Castle Arc edition and regular edition of the Blu-ray disc for " Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba : Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Castle Arc - Akaza's Return," the anime based on Koyoharu Gotouge 's popular manga, took first and second place. The regular and limited edition DVDs of the same film also took first and second place in the Oricon Weekly DVD ranking (dated August 10th). The Blu-ray and DVD were released on July 29th.
In its first week of release, the limited edition DVD sold approximately 37,000 copies, the Blu-ray sold approximately 89,000 copies, the regular edition DVD sold approximately 78,000 copies, and the regular edition Blu-ray sold approximately 70,000 copies, marking the highest first-week sales for an anime this year.
In the first-week DVD sales rankings for anime released since the Reiwa era, " Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train " ranked first with approximately 457,000 copies sold, the limited Mugen Train of " Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba : Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train" ranked second with approximately 165,000 copies sold, and " Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Infinity Castle Arc - Akaza Returns" came in third.
"The Infinity Castle Arc Chapter 1: Akaza's Return" was released on July 18, 2025, in 452 theaters, surpassing the scale of "The Mugen Train," which was released in 2020 and recorded approximately 40.4 billion yen in box office revenue, making it the highest-grossing film in Japanese history. It was the fastest film in Japan to surpass 10 billion, 20 billion, and 30 billion yen in box office revenue, and in the 266 days until its final screening on April Getsuku(excluding some theaters), it had surpassed 40.2 billion yen in box office revenue and attracted over 27.45 million viewers.
"Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Kimetsu no Yaiba" tells the story of Tanjiro Kamado, whose family is killed by demons, and who joins the Demon Slaying Corps in order to turn his sister Nezuko, who has been transformed into a demon, back into a human. The original manga was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha) from 2016 to 2020. The comics have sold over 220 million copies worldwide.
The TV anime "Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc" aired from April to September 2019, and the theatrical film "Mugen Train" was released in October 2020. "Entertainment District Arc" aired from December 2021 to February 2022, "Swordsmith Village Arc" from April to June 2023, and "Hashira Training Arc" from May to June 2024. "Infinity Castle Arc" is a trilogy, with "Chapter 1" released on July 18, 2025.
