A major exhibition of Yuto Suzuki's popular manga "SAKAMOTO DAYS," currently serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha), titled "SAKAMOTO DAYS Exhibition," opened on July 17th at Gallery AaMo in Tokyo Dome City (Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo). The exhibition features over 170 completed manuscripts, including color illustrations, and over 90 handwritten creative materials, including previously unreleased documents. Photography is permitted in most areas of the exhibition. The exhibition runs until September 6th. It will also be held at Telepia Hall (Higashi-ku, Nagoya) from October 3rd to November 23rd.
At the opening event held prior to the official opening, Nobunaga Shimazaki, the voice actor who plays Shin Asakura in the TV anime "SAKAMOTO DAYS," appeared as a guest. After seeing the exhibition, Shimazaki said, "Mr. Suzuki's manuscripts are displayed in a large size, so just being able to look at them up close is very fun and exciting, and it's an exhibition that makes you think, 'Wow!' Furthermore, it is filled with an incredible amount of love for 'SAKAMOTO DAYS.' And the content is more voluminous than I had imagined, and it is structured in a way that allows you to relive the serialization of 'SAKAMOTO DAYS' from the beginning. I thought it was an exhibition that truly makes your heart feel 'plump' like Taro Sakamoto."
Addressing fans who will be attending the exhibition, he said, "It's a really fun exhibition, and the energy is incredible! Just seeing Mr. Suzuki's large manuscripts is moving, and you can feel the love of many people. As someone who has been involved in the anime, I really felt how much 'SAKAMOTO DAYS' is loved. From the exhibits to the way they are displayed, it's a wonderful space created by people who love the work and where people who love the work gather. I think anyone who loves 'SAKAMOTO DAYS' will simply be happy. I can guarantee the contents of the exhibition, so I would be very happy if you would come and visit the venue."
The venue is divided into seven areas: "ZONE 1 Sakamoto Shoten, Open for Business," which recreates Sakamoto Shoten and uses the store's product packaging and POP displays to introduce the characters; "ZONE 2 Destruction, Frontline," where visitors can see completed manuscripts and creative materials while following the story of the three-way battle between Sakamoto Shoten, Satsuren, and the × (Slur) faction; "ZONE 3 Traces of the Art of Killing," which focuses on the battle that took place at the "Exhibition of the Century's Assassins" in the story; "ZONE 4 Trigger of Determination," where visitors can relive the story of how the past and past grudges connect to the present and move towards a new phase through completed manuscripts and inked line drawings; "ZONE 5 The Night Before the Decisive Battle," which focuses on the "moment" of the deadly battles between the assassins; "ZONE 6 The Foundation of 'Today'," which focuses on the words of the characters; and "ZONE 7 Colorful Days," which displays color illustrations, line drawings, and rough sketches.
"ZONE 7" also features an exhibition of comic book cover illustrations, including the cover illustration for the latest volume, volume 28, which will be released on August 4th.
"SAKAMOTO DAYS" tells the story of Taro Sakamoto, a former legendary hitman who runs a shop after retirement, and fights against assassins alongside his companions to protect the peaceful everyday life he shares with his beloved family. The series has gained popularity for its spectacular battle scenes featuring unique characters. The comics have sold over 15 million copies in total.
The TV anime series has also gained popularity, with the first season's first cour airing from January to March 2025, and the second cour from July to September of the same year. The second season will begin airing in January 2027. The release of a live-action film starring Ren Meguro of the popular group "Snow Man" also generated buzz.
