"Detective! Night Scoop" (ABC TV, Fridays at 11:17 PM) is a popular variety show where "detectives" tackle outlandish requests and worries submitted by viewers. On July 17th, Detective Daigo Nagami investigated "A secret strategy to defeat the world Othello champion!?" Actor Tomohito Yashima made his first appearance on the show as the special director, with Director Hiroshi Tamura as assistant director and Secretary Saori Masuda also appearing.
The request came from a 47-year-old man from Fukuoka Prefecture. The man's dream is to disrupt and defeat the world Othello champion. The man has dedicated himself to Othello and at the age of 47 he achieved his long-desired "first dan" rank, but has since stagnated and is on a losing streak. His idol, world champion Takanashi 9th dan, is an unattainable figure.
However, this man possesses a special skill that Takanashi 9-dan lacks: a powerful physique. It's his original "hopscotch," where he runs at full speed while wearing a bandana and holding his left foot with his right hand. Perhaps a new sport combining this "hopscotch" with "Othello," called "hopscotch Othello," could even defeat Othello legend Takanashi 9-dan? The bandana-wearing man wants to shake up the Othello world with his pride.
The "Kenken Othello" game, devised by a man, includes five "Kenken Time" rounds after the 30th move in the second half of the game, during which the winner can swap one of their opponent's pieces on the board. Moreover, the power of the original Kenken is quite formidable.
In fact, the program had received a request from a sixth-grade boy who said, "I want to team up with six friends and defeat the 9th dan, one of only nine people in the world to do so." So the man suggested that they challenge Takanashi 9th dan, who had achieved five consecutive world championship victories, by incorporating the elementary school students' special talents, including "hopscotch time," "national flag quiz," and "Strider bike."
