The TV anime " A Witch's Life in Mongol, " based on the manga by Tomato Soup, which was also selected as the No. 1 female manga in " Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2023" (Takarajimasha), is entering its "Mongol Arc," and a new promotional video, "Mongol Arc Opening PV," has been released on YouTube. The video depicts Sitara's journey from Persia to Mongolia, the consorts she meets there, and a glimpse into the story of intrigue and ambition swirling within the empire. The video raises expectations for future information, particularly regarding who will play Borakchin, the first empress of the Mongol Empire's Emperor Ögedei, who stands out even within the video.
The cast members playing the empire's consorts have also been announced. Misaki Kuno will play Solkokhtani, the intelligent wife of the fourth prince Tolui; Ayaka Asai will play Moge, the fourth consort of the Mongol emperor Ogedai; and Mayumi Shintani will play Kyrgystani, the third consort.
Kuno said, "For the first time in my voice acting career, I played a character who has a husband and children. I was so, so happy. It has always been my dream to play a character my own age, so I am filled with gratitude to the production team for entrusting me with the role of Solkokhtani. During the voice recording, I received very careful direction, and it was a continuous stream of discoveries, reflections, and challenges, making each session incredibly fun and exciting. I hope you will enjoy seeing how Solkokhtani, who lives gracefully and stays true to her beliefs as the wife of her beloved Torui and as a mother, will interact with Sitara."
Asai said, "When I read the original work, I was immediately drawn in by the contrast between the soft illustrations drawn by Tomato Soup-sensei and the tense atmosphere that permeates the entire story. The way each character lives their life earnestly while carrying their own circumstances and feelings is depicted so carefully that I couldn't stop turning the pages. Moge, whom I play, is also one of those who live true to themselves in that world. I made sure to capture the unique atmosphere of the work and Moge's charm during the recording. I would be very happy if you look forward to the broadcast."
Shintani commented, "This is a story of the wives who lived in the shadows of the history forged by heroes (men). I empathized equally with the tender solidarity that brought tears to my eyes and the cruel betrayals that sent chills down my spine, but perhaps that's because no matter how cleverly they manipulated things, what essentially motivated them was pure love and passion. Kyrgyzstan also seemed to be able to navigate things skillfully, but from a modern perspective, she had a pretty tough life, and I felt through the work that there may have been women who lived resiliently while being swept up in the times and customs, and it was a very exciting experience to be able to portray that. "A Witch's Life in Mongol " is a manga set in 13th-century Mongolia, serialized on Akita Shoten's manga website "Souffle". The story follows Sitara, a former slave girl who becomes a prisoner of the Mongol Empire, as she meets Dregene, the sixth wife of the Mongol Emperor, who also harbors complex feelings towards the Mongol Empire. Together, they use their wits to shake up the empire.
The anime will be directed by Naoko Yamada , known for works such as " The Heike Story A Silent Voice," and "The Colors Within ," with Abel Gongora, director of " Dandadan" Season 2, and character design and animation chief by Kenichi Yoshida, known for works such as "Eureka Seven," "OVERMAN King Gainer," and "The Orbital Children." It will be produced by Science SARU, known for works such as "Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!", "The Heike Story," and "Dandadan."
It is currently airing on TV Asahi's anime block "IMAnimation".
