The first episode of the Yomiuri TV/Nippon TV drama series "Ichijigen no Sashiki" (One-Dimensional Cutting), starring Ryosuke Yamada of the popular group " Hey! Say! JUMP, " aired on July 5th (Sundays at 10:30 PM). The suspicious nature of the characters and the plot in which Yu (Yamada), a graduate student studying genetics, becomes involved in an inexplicable incident have generated a lot of buzz on social media.
◇The following contains spoilers.
Yu was standing in front of the funeral home where his stepsister, Shiyo ( Mayu Hotta), who went missing in a torrential downpour four years ago, was being held. He had come to stop the funeral, which was being conducted by his stepfather, Kyoichi Nanase (Kuranosuke Sasaki), the president of the major pharmaceutical company, Hiei Pharmaceutical. Shiyo had gone missing four years ago, but Yu had seen her since then and believed she was still alive.
Around this time, Yu is asked by his mentor, Professor Iwamizaki (played by Masana Bokuzo), to perform DNA testing on some ancient human remains. The remains were 200 years old and unearthed at Lake Rupukund in India. Although there is a local legend that "anyone who takes bones from Lake Rupukund will be cursed," Yu accepts the job.
However, when Yu analyzed the bones, the results were astonishing: the DNA identified matched that of the missing Shiyo 100%. Yu headed to Iwamizaki's house, but on the way he passed a man dressed entirely in black, Ushio (Mitsuo Yoshihara). Later, Yu discovered Iwamizaki dead. The mysterious man, Ushio, silently watched from the forest as Yu and Iwamizaki's niece, Yui (Sei Shiraishi), exchanged words.
On social media, comments such as "That first episode was too unsettling," "No, it's too scary," "It's scary until the very end," and "Everything about it is just too scary" were posted in response to the unsettling atmosphere of the drama.
Furthermore, when Kyoichi spoke with Maehara (played by Taisei Kido) about whether they could keep the "Log Zero" secret and whether they could completely erase all traces of the "Log Zero," and when he heard the results of the DNA test that Yu revealed, he didn't seem surprised but instead said, "There's still something you don't know," showing that he was hiding something, comments such as "My father-in-law is already acting suspiciously," "My father-in-law is clearly way too suspicious," and "This is bad, I can't trust anyone anymore" were also seen.
