The live-action film "Blue Lock" (directed by Yusuke Taki), based on the popular soccer manga serialized in "Weekly Shonen Magazine" (Kodansha), opened in 412 theaters on August 7th, and it has been revealed that it has grossed 270 million yen and attracted over 180,000 viewers in just three days.
It was also announced that dance and vocal group FANTASTICS member Yusei Yagi, actor Keisuke Watanabe, and Omi Natsuki will be joining the cast. Yagi will play Rin Itoshi, an extraordinary player who boasts high specs in all the abilities necessary for a soccer player; Watanabe will play Jubei Aryu, a fashion seeker who seeks beauty in both his play and appearance; and Natsuo will play Aoshi Tokimitsu, a physical monster with an extremely negative mindset and a timid demeanor, but who runs with inexhaustible stamina.
The film will be screened in MX4D, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema formats starting August 21st. On August 14th, cheering screenings where audience participation is encouraged will be held in five theaters across five cities nationwide.
"Blue Lock" is a manga series written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura, serialized in "Weekly Shonen Magazine" since 2018. The cumulative circulation of the comic books exceeds 60 million copies. The Japan Football Association has launched the "Blue Blue Lock" project to train strikers who will lead Japan to victory in the FIFA World Cup, and 300 high school forwards gathered from all over the country engage in a fierce survival competition.
The film will be produced by CREDEUS, the production company behind popular works such as the "Kingdom" series, the "Golden Kamuy" series, and "National Treasure." Actor Fumiya Takahashi will play the lead role of Yoichi Isagi.
